"Sustaining the Momentum"
The Sonoma County Winegrowers’ 23rd Annual Dollars & $ense Seminar and Tradeshow on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 will focus on “Sustaining the Momentum.” The event will provide perspective and plans for expanding the successful Sonoma County brand initiative, renewed commitment towards stewardship of the land, and maintaining the legacy built over the last century by Sonoma County’s multi-generational family wine growers. This year’s event will occur from 7:30am -1:30pm at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts located at 50 Mark West Springs Road, Santa Rosa 95403.
ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSED. WALK-INS ACCEPTED ON DAY OF EVENT. PLEASE BRING CHECK OR CASH. GROWERS: $20.00 and OTHER INDUSTRY: $30.00 LUNCH IS SOLD OUT.
During the event, the organization’s President Karissa Kruse will present “A Sustainable Sonoma County Wine Industry: Our Legacy and Future.” This will be followed by a panel discussion entitled “It Matters: A Marketplace Perspective on Sustainability” that will feature industry leaders and a respected Master Sommelier all discussing the importance of sustainability, as well as the trends they’re seeing in the marketplace. The panel consists of Emily Wines, Master Sommelier and Director of Wines at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants; Katie Jackson, Family Representative, Government Relations and Community Outreach for her family’s Jackson Family Wines; Steve Smit, VP Vineyards and Grape Management of Constellation Brands, Inc.; and Allison Jordan, Executive Director of the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance.
In addition, Brian Clements and Marc Cuneo of Turrentine Company will close the event with their presentation “2013: A Wine Odd-yssey.” Stanley Kubrick’s epic film, 2001: A Space Odyssey, has nothing on the North Coast wine business. While we may not have had any black monoliths to spur evolution, we have survived a difficult economy and journeyed through two years of crops below expectation with low bulk wine inventories followed by two years of crops above expectation with increasing bulk wine inventories. They will bring you up to date on what you need to know in this changing market. The Sonoma County Winegrowers will also provide an overview of their year in review and a look ahead at their marketing and promotional plans for 2014.
